Englands Greatest Poet And Playwright Was Born At Essays - Kings Men
England's greatest poet and playwright was born at Stratford-upon-Avon, the son of a tradesman and Alderman of Stratford, John Shakespeare in 1564. William, the eldest son, and third child (of eight) was baptised on 26th April 1564 and probably educated at Stratford Grammar School, but little is known of his life up to his eighteenth year. He did not go to University and his younger contemporary and fellow-dramatist, Ben Johnson, would later speak disparagingly of his small Latin, and less Greek in the eulogy prefaced to the Firs Folio. However the Grammar School curriculum would have provided a formidable linguistic, and to some extent literary, education. Although, in 1575 when he was eleven, there was a great plague in the country and Queen Elizabeth journeyed out of London to avoid its consequences and stayed for several days at Kenilworth Castle near Stratford enjoying festivities arranged by her host Lord Leicester. It is probable these events may have made a strong impact on the mind of young William. At the age of Eighteen, he married Anne Hathaway, eight years his senior. Five years later he left for London. William worked at the Globe Theatre and appeared in many small parts. He first appeared in public as a poet in 1593 with his Venus and Adonis and the following year with The Rape of Lucrece. He became joint proprietor of The Globe and also had an interest in the Blackfriars Theatre. The play writing commenced in 1595 and of the 38 plays that comprise the Shakespeare Cannon, 36 were published in the 1st Folio of 1623, of which 18 had been published in his lifetime in what are termed the Quarto publications. Love's Labour's Lost and The Comedy of Errors appear to be among the earliest, being followed by The Two Gentlemen of Verona and Romeo and Juliet. Then followed Henry VI, Richard III, Richard II, Titus Andronicus, The Taming of the Shrew, King John, The Merchant of Venice, A Midsummer Night's Dream, All's Well that Ends Well, Henry IV, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Henry V, Much Ado about Nothing, As you like it, Twelth Night, Julius Caesar, Hamlet, Troilus and Cressida, Othello, Measure for Measure, Macbeth, King Lear, Timon of Athens, Pericles, Antony and Cleopatra, Coriolanus, Cymbeline, A Winter's Tale, The Tempest, Henry VIII and The Two Noble Kinsmen. When he retired from writing in 1611, he returned to Stratford to live in a house which he had built for his family. His only son, Hamnet died when still a child. He also lost a daughter Judith (twin to Hamnet), but his third child Susanna married a Stratford Doctor, John Hall and their home Hall's Croft is today preserved as one of the Shakespeare Properties and administered by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. In 1616 Shakespeare was buried in the Church of the Holy Trinity the same Church where he was baptised in 1564. Tradition has it that he died after an evening's drinking with some of his theatre friends. His gravestone bears the words:- Good frend for Jesus sake forebeare, to digg the dust encloased heare, Bleste be ye man yt spares thes stones, And curst be he yt moves my bones. In his will Shakespeare left his wife, the former Anne Hathaway, his second best bed. We cannot be sure of the reason for this. It may have been the marital bed the best bed being reserved for guests. It may suggest that they had a not altogether happy marriage which nevertheless produced three children, Susanna, born on May 26th 1583 and twins , Hamnet and Judith, born on February 2nd 1585. These entries appear in the Holy Trinity Register. There is no direct evidence of the marriage of William Shakespeare to Anne Hathaway although most historians accept that an entry in the Bishop's Register at Worcester in November 1582 regarding the issue of a marriage licence to William Shaxpere and Anne Whateley of Temple Grafton does not refer to the famous bard. However the following day a guarantee of ?40 was undertaken in Stratford by two yeomen of the town against the prevention of the legal marriage of William Shagspere and Anne Hathway on only one reading of the banns. In 1582 , ?40 was a considerable sum of money and one cannot believe that the simple fact of Anne's being three months pregnant would warrant it. No marriage of an Anne Whatelely has ever been traced, neither has the marriage of Anne Hathway, but lack of record does not mean that it did not happen.

Dos and Donts of Website Content
Dos and Donts of Website Content When creating websites for a business or personal venture, one of the top (and worst) mistakes made is in the website content. With new website design programs popping up almost daily, and websites like Wix.com that can be used with little to no web design knowledge, building a web page has never been easier. But once youre past the design part- what will your website say?As a web content writer with almost a decade of experience doing this, Ive had clients approach me with concerns that their website just isnt getting them noticed the way they need to be noticed. Web sites are supposed to draw traffic, right? If there is no traffic coming in on your site, or very little business brought in because of it, 9 times out of 10 it will have something to do with the content you have on it. With this in mind, lets first look at some of things you should avoid at all costs when creating website content that is intended to bring visitors (and hopefully, customers) to your site and business.Do nt write too muchThis one is probably the most common offense in website content. Youve got a lot to say about your business or passions, right? I know the temptation is difficult to avoid, so always keep this little statistic in mind whenever youre writing website content: 55% of website visitors spend fewer than 15 seconds actively on a page; and for most visitors, you have 10 seconds to get their attention. Insteadâ⬠¦Do write a paragraph or two with highly engaging contentThis means that when someone visits your website, theyre likely to spend only about 15 seconds on each page. So what about all that content you want to write? Scrap it and come up with a paragraph (or two) that best summarizes everything youd rather say in 10 paragraphs, because thats all the time you have to get most peoples attention. Bore them in the first paragraph and I guarantee you that they wont read further.Dont try to oversell yourself or your businessHave you ever come across a website full of cli chà ©s like but wait, theres more? Did you want to hang out there? Probably not- no one really likes to be harassed by overzealous salespeople. Insteadâ⬠¦Do make your website a type of informal portfolioInstead of thinking of your website as a sales pitch, think of it as a portfolio- a way to show your potential clients or customers what you know, what you do, and why youre the best at it. Your work will speak for itself without all the clichà ©d writing (that no one likes to read because theyve read it a million times before).Dont allow grammar or spelling errors on your siteThere is nothing that can ruin a businesss reputation like a lack of professionalism, and allowing grammar or spelling errors is simply unprofessional. Most customers will assume that if you cant spell a word correctly (or find an editor to fix the error for you), then you wont be able to conduct business correctly either. Insteadâ⬠¦Do make sure your website is grammatically correct and error freeMost times, this is just a matter of hiring an editor to look over the content for you. Even the best writers make grammar and spelling mistakes, so having a second pair of eyes look over the content is a smart business practice, regardless of what type of business youre in.Dont crowd a lot of words into wide spacesThis is just as much an issue of design as it is of content, but putting large blocks of writing in one spot- particularly if that spot takes up most of the page- will deter your visitor from reading it. Most people surf the web after a busy day at work, or as a way to relax and unwind. Theyre not going to want to read a lot of writing that may not be of interest to them, and strain their eyes while doing it. Insteadâ⬠¦Do make your content scan-able and mix it with images that encourage the eye to keep readingWhen your content is easy to scan, your visitors eye will naturally scan it. Keeping the content in small, scan-able chunks encourages visitors to stay on your page longer and actually read what youve written there. Mixing that content with images is another way to keep the eye on the page, as well as ensuring that there is plenty of white space on the page so that it isnt crowded (and overwhelming to the eye).Dont write boring contentWhile this one should be obvious, youd be surprised at how many websites are filled with boring content that no one really wants to read. For example, an attorney might put his entire CV on his website, including every association and membership hes ever held. Guess what? Most people dont want to read this, especially in the form of a CV. Insteadâ⬠¦Do write engaging contentAgain, think of your website as your portfolio, and include on it writing that is simply stated and at the same time engaging and exciting to read. Most visitors dont need (or want) to know your entire history or your CV. Hit the high points of each and theyll be much more likely to read it. If it sounds like a sales pitch or a lecture, youl l chase your visitors away before they even have the opportunity to become your customers.Following these few Dos and Donts of website content writing will ensure that your website looks professional, retains visitors for as long as possible, and helps your business grow.

Teen Pregnancy among the Hispanics in US Research Paper
Teen Pregnancy among the Hispanics in US - Research Paper Example The findings of these studies also validate the authorââ¬â¢s claim that the most widespread health related problem for the US is ââ¬Å"teenage pregnancyâ⬠, a major point of which is Hispanics (Curley, 2012, p. 230). The author further contends that teenagers who become pregnant are unlikely to complete their high school or college education and, on most occasions, they drop out, and this problem is clearly stated and supported by evidence from other studies. Basch further delineates the repercussions of the problem in terms of failure to attain academic accomplishments and considerable aggravation of economic stability. He also identifies clinical problems related to teen pregnancy, which are evident from the fact that ââ¬Å"children who are born to teen mothers also experience a wide range of problemsâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotionâ⬠, 2011, para.4) like chronic health conditions and behavioral problems. The author specifically narrows d own his claims that economic and social costs of teen pregnancy are often high among Hispanic groups, and these costs may be both immediate and recurring for teen parents and their children. This claim is further substantiated through another study, which purports that the rising problem of teen pregnancy contributes significantly to ââ¬Å"drop-out rates among high school girlsâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotionâ⬠, 2011, para.5). Teen pregnancy and childbirth cost for the US taxpayers was estimated to be ââ¬Å"$9 billion per yearâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotionâ⬠, 2011, para.8) due to enlarged health and foster care cost, enlarged internment rates among the teen parentââ¬â¢s children, and missing tax returns from the teen mothers who receive less money as they have less education. The author also establishes the significance of the study by stating that non-marital teen births in the US affect the educational, economic, social and health aspects of such teenagers and their children. Purpose and Research Questions The author has clearly stated the objective of the study and also delineated the pervasiveness of teen pregnancy among school-aged Hispanic youth, underlying pathways through which the pre-marital teen births negatively affect educational achievement. Though the author does not put the questions explicitly in the study, it serves the purpose as the questions are related to the problem. The qualitative methods of analysis are suitable to answer the research questions as the author has reviewed the articles of several prominent authors. Literature Review The author has conducted an exhaustive and accurate analysis of this problem prevalent among the Hispanics in the US. He claims that teen pregnancy and birth rates of this race are considered to higher than in any other community and it ââ¬Å"exerts an important influence on [their] educational attainmentâ⬠(Basch, 2011, p.6 14). As a result of this, they drop out from schools, and this adversely affects their education and knowledge attainment and pushes them to the lower strata.

Human - Religion Essay Example for Free
Human Religion Essay I really have to give credit for my religion beliefs for my search on the meaning of life. Iââ¬â¢m a fully baptized Catholic, and a part of Godââ¬â¢s Church. 17 years of being a Catholic and in search of the meaning of life, I have always thought it is about the Call to Holiness. My religion taught me that being a part of Godââ¬â¢s Church is no accident, but because God wanted to share in His own blessed life, and in doing so He wanted me to desire serve Him freely by following His will. And by following his will, God will grant me eternal happiness which will lead to my salvation. All Catholics knew that God sent His son, Jesus, to set an example for us. Jesus showed the perfect example answered the call to Holiness. He showed us that we should love our neighbors as God showed His love for us; and that is what the Call to Holiness is. In search for the true meaning of life, it will take plenty of years, but for now I plan to stick with what my religion has taught me. Carl Rogers Carl Rogers emphasized focused on self-actualization. He believed that a person should develop his/her potential to the fullest, and in good condition. In doing so, the environment of a person should be inherently good. A person will only stop developing if constraints block the development. A fully developed person shows that he/she achieved the highest level of being a right fully-functioning human being. Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi, which means ââ¬Å"great soul,â⬠was an ideologist during the Independent movement of India from the British. As an ideological leader he believed violence should never be an answer to fight for his peopleââ¬â¢s rights, and should never take discrimination. He also believed that harmony, truth equality exists between all religions. With these 2 influential personas, I have noticed similarities between them. They both talk about human beings having a common good inside of them. They emphasized that all humans were born good, but because of destructiveà environment, they tend to turn their backs on what is right. Huckleberry Finn :: essays research papers
Many people think that Huckleberry Finn is a racist novel and they have even gone as far as banning the novel from certain schools. They base this view on the fact that the word ââ¬Å"niggerâ⬠is used very often and they see the black people being portrayed in a degrading way to show that they are inferior to the white society. Contrary to this idea, Huckleberry Finn is not a racist novel. Mark Twain actually attacks racism by satirizing the lifestyle of the white people and shows that they have no reason at all to think that they are better than the blacks. This satirizing of the white people is effectively seen in the portrayal of the king and the duke. Mark Twain starts to mock the king and the duke as soon as they are first introduced in the novel. Their appearance gives a negative impression right from the start. The king is described as having, ââ¬Å"an old battered-up slouch hat on, and a greasy blue woolen shirt,â⬠and heââ¬â¢s wearing, ââ¬Å"ragged old blue jeans britches stuffed into his boot tops.â⬠(Pg. 121) The duke is described as much the same. This first impression makes us feel as if these men are scum and we donââ¬â¢t have a very good perception of them. The second thing that these men do also is used to mock society in two ways. The first man (the duke) makes up a story that he was actually the Duke of Bridgewater. He said that he was the son of the infant duke that was ignored to take over a position. Not to be outdone, the second man (the king) makes up a story that he was actually the rightful King of France. Mark Twain uses Huck Finn to show what he thinks of these two men. ââ¬Å"It didnââ¬â ¢t take me to long to make up my mind that these liars warnââ¬â¢t no kings nor dukes at all, but just low-down humbugs and frauds.â⬠(Pg.125) These men are putting up a false front just like society does and Mark Twain shows through Huck that he can see right through this false front. The second thing that is mocked is the fact that these people pretend that they are royalty. Jim wonders why these men carry on so much and Huck tells him, ââ¬Å" . . .because itââ¬â¢s in the breed. I reckon theyââ¬â¢re all alike,â⬠and he also says, ââ¬Å"all kings is mostly rapscallions, as fur as I can make out.
